What We Do

Full-Service Landscaping & Hardscaping in Troy, VA

Troy sits along U.S. Route 15 in Fluvanna County, between Zion Crossroads and Palmyra — a rural community that grew up around a railroad stop over a century ago and still keeps that small-town, working-property character today. It's part of our regular Fluvanna County route, about 30 minutes southeast of our Charlottesville home base.

Properties here tend to run larger than what we see in Albemarle County subdivisions — open pasture, wooded edges, and longer driveways along Route 15 and Troy Road. We scope mowing, drainage, and hardscape work around the actual size and use of the property, not a one-size-fits-all suburban plan.

Local Know-How

Landscaping in Troy, VA: What Local Properties Need

Troy is an unincorporated Fluvanna County community just west of U.S. Route 15, between Zion Crossroads to the north and Palmyra, the county seat, to the south. It grew up around a stop on the Virginia Air Line Railway and was renamed for the railway's president, T. O. Troy; rail service ended in 1975. Today it is a quiet stretch of Troy Road (Route 631) and surrounding country lots, part of the Charlottesville metro area but with a distinctly rural feel.

Troy properties are country lots along Troy Road and off Route 15, and good landscaping there tends to be practical: clean beds around the house, plantings that soften a new build and screening along the road. We pick hardy plants that handle Fluvanna County's clay and open sun, and set up a plan the homeowner can keep up with on a larger lot.

How Troy homeowners find us

Troy calls often come from homeowners who commute toward Charlottesville and want a landscaper who already works the Route 15 and Zion Crossroads side of the county.

What Troy owners ask first

Country lots raise the first question: can the crew handle open acreage, ditches and long drives as well as the beds beside the house?

Why Troy clients choose Green Thumb

We pair Troy jobs with our Lake Monticello and Fluvanna visits, so Troy homeowners get regular service instead of waiting for an occasional trip.

Our Story

Meet Ryan Pace — Owner & Founder

Green Thumb Landscaping & Hardscaping is a locally owned, fully insured landscaping and hardscaping contractor based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Founded in 2018 by Ryan Pace, the business has served Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and the surrounding areas ever since.

From the time he could walk, Ryan loved working outside. He started cutting neighbors' lawns in Glenmore (Keswick, VA) at age 12, grew that into a degree in Turf Management and Horticulture from Virginia Tech, and opened Green Thumb in 2018. He's still in the field leading a crew — mowing, mulching, or building a patio — every week.

Questions?

Troy Landscaping FAQ

Who is the best landscaping company in Troy, VA?

Green Thumb Landscaping & Hardscaping is Troy's top-rated landscaping and hardscaping contractor — family-owned, led by a Virginia Tech-trained turf management team, serving Troy and Fluvanna County since 2018. Founded by Ryan Pace. Call 434-953-9777 for a free estimate.

What landscaping services do you offer in Troy?

Green Thumb offers full landscape design and installation, lawn mowing and maintenance, hardscaping (patios, walkways, retaining walls, fire pits), sod installation, drainage solutions, and seasonal services throughout Troy and the surrounding Route 15 corridor.

How is Troy different from Lake Monticello or the rest of your Fluvanna service area?

Troy isn't a gated community like nearby Lake Monticello — it's a mix of everyday rural and residential properties along the Route 15 corridor between Zion Crossroads and Palmyra, so there's no HOA approval process to navigate before we start work.

Is Troy outside your normal Charlottesville service area?

No — Troy in Fluvanna County is a regular part of our service area alongside Charlottesville and Albemarle County, about 30 minutes from our home base. We serve the community consistently, not as an occasional add-on trip.

What landscaping challenges are common in Troy?

Many Troy properties sit on larger rural lots along Route 15 and Troy Road, with a mix of open pasture, wooded edges, and older farmhouse landscaping. Drainage and grading tend to matter most here, since these lots don't have the tight runoff paths of a subdivision.

How do I get started with Green Thumb in Troy?

Call 434-953-9777 or submit the form on this page for a free estimate. We'll schedule a site visit to your Troy property and walk through your project before any work begins.

How quickly can Green Thumb get to Troy for landscaping?

Troy sits just off U.S. Route 15 near Zion Crossroads. We schedule Troy with our other Fluvanna County jobs, which keeps visits regular. Call 434-953-9777 to get on the schedule.

Do I need a permit for landscaping in Troy, VA?

Planting beds and general landscaping don't need a permit in Fluvanna County. Walls, grading near property lines, or work in a drainage way may need a check with Fluvanna County's building and zoning office, which we handle before work starts.
